Well, a bluebird helped along the way until our queen finally arrived among wild blueberries and sunny meadows.
In May of 2021, we received our bees just in time for World Bee Day! Chris Kelly from Promise Land Apiaries Beekeeping Services came out to the airport with a truckload of bees and hives all smoked up and ready to settle into their new home. We had so much fun unloading and setting them up at one of the spots our beautiful airport provides.
About the Author
Bernadette Ruggiero, who has worked at the East Hampton Airport since 2017 authored this Children’s book. “The purpose of the book was to help the children who come to the many events at the airport,” Bernadette said, “With the onset of honey bee colony collapse in North America, it is important to understand the importance of caring for the bees in our community.” she continued. Many local airports across the United States and Canada are establishing relationships with beekeepers to make use of the wide open spaces that an airport requires.
